Hope you are enjoying the summer.
Things are slowing down a bit at KPC. Summer is a perfect time to slow down, reflect on the beauty of God’s creation, enjoy fellowship in the sunshine, and engage in uplifting activities that warm our hearts and souls. In the next few weeks I will be taking some time away to rest with my family and "re-create." I hope you are getting some time to rest and re-create too. It's a great opportunity to share in laughter, worship outdoors, and engage in some community events that make the most of the long, sunny days. In my absence, I have arranged some guest preachers to lead the worship service on Sunday August 18th and 25th. I hope you continue to join us!
Blessings,
Richard
The PCC is turning 150 – share your story! - Presbyterian.ca
Do you have a favorite memory of singing in a choir, attending youth group, going to a potluck supper, attending the General Assembly—or anything else that shaped your involvement in the church? What are some of the things your congregation is doing today to share the good news of Jesus in your community? And what are your hopes and dreams for the PCC as it approaches 150 years?
In recognition of the PCC’s 150th anniversary in 2025, the Committee on History is preparing a published collection of stories about where we have been, where we are, and where we are going.
We want to hear from you! Share your story using this online form (which includes some helpful prompts).
Or, if you’d prefer, email Ian McKechnie, project coordinator. Remember to include your full name! Submissions are being accepted through December 2024. Also, the PCC is preparing a special edition wall calendar that you can pre-order here.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the friends and family of Shirley Mason. Shirley, a school teacher, and longtime member of Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church, was a strong and compassionate advocate for women, the ministries of First United Church, and social justice for the world. She struggled with dementia and Alzheimer’s in her last few years but her usual, sparkling, zesty self was always close. She was direct and enjoyed speaking truth with an earthy saltiness. We will miss Shirley dearly. Details about her memorial service will be shared as soon as they are available.

Ratanak’s Road to Freedom Challenge
In Cambodia families facing extreme poverty and desperate circumstances are at a high risk of being trafficked. If they are dealing with debt or illness, the risk is even greater. Ratanak International not only rescues and restores hope and dignity to those who have managed to escape their lives of terror, they are also taking decisive action to protect the most vulnerable from the chains of slavery by increasing awareness and providing job skills training so they can safely earn an income to support them and their families.
This year’s fundraising event takes place on Saturday, September 21. Anahita Hirmanpour (https://www.roadtofreedomchallenge.com/anahita-hirmanpour, Ramesh Mardani (https://www.roadtofreedomchallenge.com/ramesh-mardani, Robyn Laidlaw (https://www.roadtofreedomchallenge.robyn-laidlaw) and Marg Buschman (https://www.roadtofreedomchallenge.com/margaret-buschman) have registered for the 5 km. walk as part of the Kerrisdale Perseverers team.
Thank you to those who have already donated. If you would like to donate but haven’t yet done so, please click on any of the above links. Your support is very much appreciated.
