Hope you are enjoying the summer.
Things are slowing down a bit at KPC. Summer is a perfect time to slow down, reflect on the beauty of God’s creation, enjoy fellowship in the sunshine, and engage in uplifting activities that warm our hearts and souls. In the next few weeks I will be taking some time away to rest with my family and "re-create." I hope you are getting some time to rest and re-create too. It's a great opportunity to share in laughter, worship outdoors, and engage in some community events that make the most of the long, sunny days. I have arranged Ministry Candidate Chorong Shin and our children and youth ministry director the Rev. Jaebok Gu to lead the worship service on Sunday August 18th and 25th. I hope you continue to join us!
Blessings,
Richard

Ratanak’s Road to Freedom Challenge
Pal is a prime example of Ratanak’s amazing work in Cambodia Through a radio ad Pal was lured into work on a construction site in Thailand that promised good pay and safe working conditions. The exact opposite became his reality for the next several years until he miraculously was able to return to Cambodia, He was grateful to obtain work on another construction site, until one day at work a bolt of electricity surged through his body. When he awoke in a hospital days later, both of his arms were amputated due to the extent of his injuries. His depression and despair led to arguments with his wife and she left him, taking their two children with her. Fortunately, he received a referral to Ratanak and his life changed for the better. Through donors like us, Ratanak was able to provide Pal with counseling to regain his self-esteem. Ratanak also gave him two cows to begin a small family business with the help of his now adult son and his neighbours.
In less than a month Anahita Hirmanpour (https://www.roadtofreedomchallenge.com/anahita-Hirmanpour), Ramesh Mandani (https://www.roadtofreedomchallenge.com/ramesh-Mardani) Robyn Laidlaw (https://www.roadtofreedomchallenge.robyn-laidlaw) and Marg Buschman (https://www.roadtofreedomchallenge.com/margaret-buschman) will walk 5 km. to raise money for Ratanak. Thanks to those who have already donated. You may recall from earlier newsletters that Session approved the Committee's proposal to apply for a new refugee sponsorship. While there is still a lot of behind-the-scenes administrative work being dealt with, the Refugee Sponsorship Committee is continuing with fundraising efforts.
The very talented Rachel Wei has graciously offered her musical skills to the Refugee Committee for the latest fundraiser. For the past several years KPC has hosted Rachel's performances as she raised funds for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.
The Rachel Wei and Friends concert is scheduled for Friday, 27 September at 7 PM. We hope to have a full house to support Rachel, her Friends and the Refugee Sponsorship Committee. The accompanying flyer has details about the upcoming performance, how to obtain tickets and making direct donations to the Refugee Fund.
Did you know that Rachel has been winning awards since age 6! And that she has performed at Carnegie Hall? She is an amazing musician, accomplished on flute, violin and piano. Check out her home page and be amazed! https://www.rachelweimusic.com/
Watch her perform in the Samson Francois International Competition June 2024 in Côte d'Azure, France. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEd7Y8KO_yE Move the time-line slider to 5:45:00 for the beginning of her performance.
