April 28 week is Mission Awareness Sunday when Women's Missionary Societies across Canada are leading worship in the Presbyterian Churches. The Janet Thompson group will be leading worship at KPC. This group continues to support missions in the lower mainland: Camp Douglas, Hummingbird Ministries, and the Long House Ministry are among them. We look forward to hearing more about this and more next week. KPC men's breakfast fellowship meeting--8:30 a.m., Sat., May 4, 2024--at the church hall (on the north side of the church parking lot). All are welcome. The guest speaker will be Stan Yen who will speak on his life and faith journey. Any donations received at this meeting will go towards KPC's Around the Well ministry. Please let our minister Richard Watson or Kiejoon Kim know if you are coming to this meeting. You may also write your names on a sign-up sheet in the church narthex.
On Sunday, April 28th after worship, The KPC Refugee Committee will be providing an information update on our hope to sponsor a group of refugees from Afghanistan. Please plan to stick around after the worship service. Potluck Lunch The Refugee Committee invites everyone to help celebrate our refugee couple’s achievements at our potluck lunch on Sunday, May 5 after the church service. You do not need to bring anything but if you can help out by providing some food to share it will be very welcome. Please check the bulletin board. May 5 is a significant date for the VTPC and KPC congregations. It is the date, exactly one year ago, when the KPC/VTPC Refugee Committee welcomed our first refugee couple to Vancouver. The initial frenzy of completing administrative tasks took them all over the city to complete various government forms and get photos, set up their bank account, find and make appointments with their new family doctor and dentist and the numerous other piddly but necessary things which we tend take for granted and quickly forget about once they have been initiated. When these tasks were completed they tackled various online applications for courses necessary to begin the job hunt, to register for language classes and a multitude of other things necessary to begin their new life. They have made amazing strides to integrate into our culture and community. How does being named Employee Of The Year sound? It would be an impressive accomplishment for any worker but even more so for a new refugee working his first job in Canada! This says quite a lot about our couple’s determination. Another milestone for our Refugee couple was their first Canadian Income Tax Return! It is an intimidating process to most of us but with perseverance and some guidance they successfully completed the process. Thank you to everyone who helped in any way make our couple's new beginnings in Vancouver possible.
