Rev. Richard Topping visiting KPC this Sunday March 17

This Sunday we look forward to welcoming Rev. Dr. Richard Topping at KPC. As Principal of VST, Richard's presence comes with a tremendous amount of experience and accomplishment. He was minister at Zion and Knox Presbyterian Churches in Muskoka, Ontario and at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul in Montreal, Quebec. Richard also taught at Presbyterian College (2001-2009) and currently holds the St. Andrew’s Hall Chair in Studies in the Reformed Tradition. Richard teaches Theology, Reformation History, and Christian Spirituality. He is currently working on a book which examines the role of the imagination in postmodern theology. Richard and his wife Amy live in Richmond where he is Minister in association at Richmond Presbyterian Church. He is also a well known and regular preacher in the Vancouver area. We are very glad to host him this Sunday!

In Memory of Jasmina Patrick

Condolences to Friends and Family of Jasmina Patrick

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jasmina Patrick, a beloved daughter, friend, and cherished member of our community. Jasmina crossed the river into the heavenly realms on March 12th, after a courageous four-year battle with leukaemia. Her resilience, bravery, and vivacious spirit throughout her illness were an inspiration to us all.

We extend our deepest condolences to her parents, Kelly and Garth Patrick, during this incredibly difficult time. We weep, heartbroken, with them as they navigate this profound loss.

A memorial service to celebrate Jasmina's life and legacy will be held at 1 pm on April 6th at Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church. We invite all who knew and loved Jasmina to join us in honouring her memory. Let us come together to remember the joy and light she brought into our lives.

Holy Week at KPC

Every year Christians all over the world celebrate the most significant eight days of Jesus time on earth.  Events framed by Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and his resurrection are some of the most dramatic and theologically important of the entire scriptural narrative. These days feature not only the drama of the triumphal entry, trial, last supper, and crucifixion but also poignant prayers and prophetic teachings of our Lord. John’s gospel devotes eight of its twenty-one chapters to this week alone! The week begins with Passion/Palm Sunday and ends after “three days” (also called the Triduum, from sunset on Thursday to sunset on Easter Day), the period during which we mark Jesus’ trial, death, and resurrection.

I hope you are able to join us in person or online for the following special services celebrating Holy Week at KPC

Palm Sunday March 23, 10 am
Good Friday March 29, 10 am
Easter Sunday March 30th 10 am

The Executive Director of Camp Douglas, Lucy "Taffy" has organized spring daycamps for ages 9-13 years old, a series at Richmond PC for 4 Saturdays in April, and a series at SASS in North Van on 4 Sat/Sun afternoons in May/June.  These are meant to reach beyond the host church congregations, so kids & friends from KPC and elsewhere are encouraged. This is the first time running this kind of program (not counting the summer daycamp replacement for overnight camps as we were coming out of covid), and look forward to more registrations by late March to make it viable.

We also have a fundraising raffle ongoing: $20 per ticket, the prize is a stay at a luxury villa in the Canary Islands.

Both the daycamps and the raffle close at the end of March, so please register as soon as possible.

Also, summer camp registration is open.  This year we have a new Adventure Camp for a week in July, and a longer Youth Camp at the beginning of August, as well as our usual Small Fry, Junior, Intermediate, and LIT camps. Registration prices are lower before the end of May. Camperships are available, but sponsorships from KPC would also be welcome.

Request for help: The Metro Vancouver Alliance, an organization that our Presbytery belongs to, is working on a campaign to protect and increase housing co-ops to help with the affordable housing crisis in this area. We want to hear if you have ever lived in a co-op or have family or friends who do. If you do, and if you think they would take a few minutes to speak with us about the value of co-op housing, that would be fabulous. Please speak with Glen Davis about this. Contact: gjidavis@telus.net. Thank you for your help!
